Overview:

Images from digital cameras contain extensive information about the camera and especially about the exposure parameters for that image, such as aperture, focal length, shutter speed and much more (the so-called EXIF-data). There are some programs available to obtain these data, e.g. PMView (version 3.1 or younger) or the exif.dll along with its basic REXX-application called RxExif.cmd.

What differentiates PMExif from these programs is its ability to process a whole bunch of photos at once, and present their data conveniently in listform to make it easy to compare the exposure parameters of one photo to the ones of another.

Especially for people who are learning the art of photography or like to experiment and produce series of photos it is very useful to have the exposure data easily on hand this way.

How to use:

PMExif solely consists (except the Print-dialog) of one window:

 


Functions:

The 'Select Directory'-button:
By means of this button you can select a directory where your digital images are stored (only *.JPG-files are processed).

Instead of selecting a directory you can use Drag-and-Drop: From any directory which you may have open (e.g. from an OS/2-drive-object) you can drag an image-file onto the PMExif's listbox.

Resize window:
You can blow-up the window to any size you want. Just drag its frame at the lower right corner (with left mouse button).
   

Context-Menus:

There are two context-menus:
  • for a list-entry (an image-file): must place mouse-cursor upon a line of the list.
  • for column settings: must place mouse-cursor outside any line of the list (e.g. upon the column header).
Context-Menu for a list-entry:
Context-menu: Print: The Print-function supports any HP-laserjet- (PCL5-) compatible printer. You can choose between portrait or landscape mode.
Context-menu: Display Image:
Equivalent to double-click on the image-name.
At first time usage a configuration-dialog is popping up asking you for the path to your favourite image program (e.g. PMView).
Context-Menu for Column Settings:
For each column you can specify:
  • Sort: The list is sorted by this column.
  • Hide: This column is removed from the list.
  • Show: This column is displayed (again).


Options:

Show only images with exif-data:
If not set, images that have no exif-data are also listed.
Add to List:
If set then the list is not cleared before processing a directory.
All Images in Dir:
If not set then only that image will be processed that is selected in the file-open-dialog.

Modification to the GUI:

Like in all programs of the 'zworks'-family you can alter the background- and foreground- (text-) colors of almost every object in the window. Open the OS/2-color-palette and drag (right mouse-button) the desired color onto the object you want to change (e.g. the list-box). To change the foreground-color you must hold the CTRL-key while dragging.

PMExif is totally freeware, i.e. free of charge as well as free of any responsibility and warranty. You are not permitted to use the program if you do not agree to this condition.

What: Installation:
Program: PMExif.zip There is a simple installation-procedure. Just download and unzip into a new (empty) directory and start install.cmd.
What you need as well... vrobj.zip (400 kb)
Vrobj.dll is a DLL which is used by many programs and most probably you already have it somewhere on your system (in the LIBPATH). If not or if the version that you have is older than 06-06-1995 then you must download it here and unzip it into (recommended) x:\os2\dll\.
